Turning off Hard Copy Reports

As you will be aware, laboratory reports are sent to your Practice both by electronic transfer and in hard copy form. The Directorate has received several requests to cease printing and sending hard copy reports as they have limited value with the current electronic systems in place. Unfortunately, until recently, it has not been possible to prevent the printing of hard copy reports to individual locations. We are pleased to inform you that technical advancements now make this possible.
Since 1st July 2009, we have been offering you the choice of whether you receive hard copy reports or not. Due to Quality Assurance requirements this cannot apply to Cytology reports. In order to proceed to a paperless system your practice will need to be compliant with the Department of Health ‘Good Practice Guidelines for General Practice Electronic Records, Version 4 (2011). This can be found at www.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk Please could you draw this matter to the attention of all the Partners and salaried Doctors within your practice and indicate your requirement on the enclosed form? Please note that we can only cease hard copy reports on a location basis, therefore, all Doctors must be in agreement.
